Aliquippa Elementary School, along with several Pittsburgh area schools, is part of a STEAM grant led by Dr. Megan Collett, Executive Director of Instructional and Innovative Leadership at Fox Chapel Area School District. The following AES teachers are on the STEAM team and have attended several professional development sessions to prepare for the new PA science standards: Mrs. Hildebrand, Ms. Hall, Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Sebastian, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Michele, and Mr. Signorelli. They will also attend a 5-day workshop this summer. On Thursday, March 16, some of our students and teachers were able to observe and take part in model lessons conducted by Kate Soriano. Ms. Soriano came to us from the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) and is also currently a teacher in New Jersey. She modeled lessons on “Pushes and Pulls" in Kindergarten, “Sound” in 1st grade, and “Light” in 4th grade. As you can see from the photos, the students were actively engaged in the lessons and their teachers were able to join in as well. It was a great experience for all who participated. We look forward to what’s to come as we continue to build our science programs.

Congressman Chris Deluzio chose Aliquippa Elementary School to participate in an AWESOME event. Our students met with Congressman Deluzio on February 13, 2023, and learned about what Congressman Deluzio does to help our community. They also were asked to make Valentine's Day cards for him to deliver on Valentine's Day to Veterans who are in homes or in the hospital. The students asked great questions and really put their hearts into making cards that read; "Thank you for your service," Happy Valentine's Day Mr. Veteran," and "Thank you for keeping me safe!" Everyone did a great job!! View photos from the event here.
